After all that checking, it seems like that particular problem
wasn't caused by me at all. The recipient says their mail-box
was full:-}
Why that resulted in the '550 Invalid MAIL FROM' message is
beyond me. According to rfc-1870 it should have been either
'452 insufficient system storage', or, perhaps
'552 message size exceeds fixed maximium message size'.
Anyway, it was an informative exercise following it up.
I now have an index to all the rfcs...
