[nottingham] More Palladium

Hi chaps, I decided that since everything possible ought to be done to
resist the nightmare future that will shortly engulf us all (i.e.
Microsoft's Palladium technology), I'm going to write to the new
Director-General for Competition at the European Commission in
Brussels. His name is Philip Lowe, and he's just been appointed so he
won't be taking up office until the 1st of September, which means I have
a bit of time to get it just right. I'm going to focus on the impact of
Palladium on Open Source software and on users' freedom to decide what
they run on their computer. I'm thinking of including some form of
petition also, but since I can't actually get any signatures via the
web, would it be worthwhile just to include names and emails, and would
anyone in the LUG be willing to sign up for it?

If anyone has any ideas of points that you think I should raise in my
letter, all help would be appreciated. Even better, write to him
yourselves too! It is of paramount importance that the strength of
resistance to Micro$oft's final solution be demonstrated as early as
possible.

- David
