There is an article in Networks bit about Geeks in London "WarChalking",
reveling free wireless hotspots..

"The symbols are written down on the pavement to indicate whether the
wireless network is open, closed or encrypted. Above the symbol is the
network's serviceSetID...below is th amount of bandwith on offer..."
