I don't have an /etc/shadow on the small or standard
(working) system. Do I need one?
I have a var/log/secure file. It contains lines of
login: PAM _pam_init_handlers: no default config
/etc/pam.d/other
... but then both systems do.
The messages from passwd happen with chroot and single
user.
Files in pam.d match for both systems (chfn, chsh,
login, passwd, su), with extra in the full system
(mcserv, proftp, rexec, rlogin, rsh, samba, vlock).
Are any of these important?
I do not have any missing dependencies, so what
packages am I missing?
I figured I might learn something about system
administration, so having a 'broke' system should be
good for learning. This message did not seem that
disastrous, so I would like to fix it rather than
abandon it.
I used rpm ('cos I knew how to use that package
manager) and TurboLinux 'cos I have a CD with it on. I
am not sure about Debian at all. I started this after
reading about Linux from Scratch, but couldn't face
compiling, etc (I don't think I'm ready for that yet).
