Jerry Pournelle of Byte, actually has an author friend who's done the switch
and it's made for a generally favourable article, including the phrase 'to
allow compatibility with "legacy" Microsoft applications and data'. Also
'Judy, my eleven-year-old, mainly uses the kids' machine for
schoolwork/research, and while she likes the multimedia stuff, her main
interest is in speed of web page loading, and she finds that Konquerer under
Linux is noticeably faster; when she's playing it's usually Windows, Linux
for work. (I haven't taken the time to find out if there's a way to play
videos from mtv.com under Linux.) She doesn't *know* that it's supposed to be
harder to do stuff under Linux, so she just does it. '
