I'd suspect a dodgy HDD - if the disk has a Compaq diagnostic partition (hit
F10 at startup) or the machine has ROM-based diags, check the disk out
thoroughly. Otherwise, use the nearest HDD diag s/w that comes to hand.
Suspect the card last of all - performance should be (more or less)
OS-independent, as the SmartArray does most of the legwork itself.
Other possibilities : duff SCSI cable - no, it's not just a bit if wire,
incorrect termination - the SmartArray will auto-terminate it's end, but if
you are using a single HDD (ie. not in a Compaq scsi drive cage) you may
need to set termination on the drive if it is the last/only drive in the
chain. Also - what spec is the card? SCSI 2,3,Fast, Fast/Wide W/UW/UW3..etc,
etc, etc...??? All give different transfer rates depending on the drive. A
slow drive on a fast controller or a fast drive on a slow controller will
work at the speed of the slowest device on the chain.
