There is some use of Linux in the Comp Sci department at NTU, but I'm afraid
this is more a reflection of the staff at NTU, and their general lack of
interest in IT, that this is the case. If you look at the pay scales for IT
support at Trent, you'll understand why.

It's rather sad, as the 'user' departments demand M$, as it's the standard,
and thought they were getting a good deal due to large discounts to education
offered by M$. Unfortunately when I used their systems, they were appalingly
unreliable, suffered from scaling problems, and resulted in large software
budgets being needed to study languages like Java and C++.

The whole situation was very political, and seemed rather unhappy, with a
virtual war in Comp Sci department between the NT and Linux admins, which
even included the NT lot, having the name server records to their subdomain,
changed to one of their servers, rather than the true primary, without any
notification or permission of the faculty. They forgot to alter the PTR
domain, which caused issues, which I ended up debugging, as I attempted to
test a project.
