RE: [nottingham] proposed intro to Linux evening

I've no idea how many people might turn up to such an evening (anybody
hear of something like this being done elsewhere?). However, there are
many people working in IT that simply haven't heard of linux. For example,
my wife just started at NTU, and during their introduction to computer
services class, she mentioned to the IT person, that she had "never used
Outlook before, because we use linux at home", and the IT person said
"What's linux?".

Still it's not as bad as the programming lecturer who had never heard of
java.

Anyway, one thought that struck me was that you might want to push the
general philosophy of "Free Software", "Open Source", "GPL", and such
like, which are at the core of what linux is about, and also (I fear) what
is most misunderstood, or most likely to be misunderstood when these
people here from micro$oft what linux is all about.

Just my 2p

Rob
