Not this specifically, but I have Java running on one of my GNU/Apache
boxen--not a great experience it has to be said...

Ah, well, now yer talking...! PHP **definately** rocks it; this is a bit
like asking which distribution of the GNU operating system you should use,
and getting the answer `Debian'! There is only one sensible answer.
PHP is an excellent package, and makes producing webpages--and particularly,
large number of similar pages, very simple and easy, whilst allowing you to
easily haul-in and process data from an RDBMS, and my favourite here is
MySQL.
Under Debian (which is of course what you're running right?! :):
# apt-get install apache php4
and have fun! The other incredible advantage with PHP is that the
documentation is supremely good; well organised, and mostly in a central
place that makes it brilliant for quick-reference, and finding examples for
things like, database intergration. Checkout:
and you're likely to find that your decision becomes very easy after that!
