Not strictly security related, but I recently upgraded a machine from
debian 2.1 to 2.2 (stable) with no problems once I'd worked out which
packages needed upgrading. The only reason I needed to do anything
more than an apt-get dist-upgrade was the fact I only had about 20M of
free space on the machine.
I'm happy with the way Debian upgrades & stuff work, and haven't had
any problems at all with the other machines I've got it running on.
They seem to do a pretty good job of getting security patches out.
With reference to the people having broken updates messing up
machines, there's areason that it's called an 'unstable' release 8-)
