I'm a long-time RH user (4 upwards) and only look after a few machines but
I've never had much problems with keeping installations up-to-date.
Generally speaking RH are fairly prompt with security patches though the
Janet Mirror site is sometimes a little behind.

I grab the rpms from the mirror and apply 'rpm -Fvh ...'. The hardest
thing is (or was as 7.2 uses grub as a boot loader) usually the kernel
updates (not particularly difficult task) though I tend to roll my own
from the offical tars.
