xchat works, but main problem with IRC is you find yourself hanging out for
toooo long with the braindead. Don't see what IRC has to do with Yahoo
egroups.

Well this kind of thing, and some applications I have, is why I often do the
Windows thing, frustrating, but complaining to many companies about Win
Websites seems often to just result in a display of ignorance.
I've had one brush with Yahoo and I wasn't overly impressed. Good luck!
On ICQ there is various Instant messaging clients, which is compatible with
the AOL/ICQ/Yahoo AFAIK, and quite an interesting server implementation,
which will probably prove useful in all sorts of unintended ways ie Using
XML messages to talk to embedded devices for control and monitoring etc.
