You should be a bit careful about directory structures if you're using SuSE,
because they play fast and loose with the preconcieved ideas about what should
go where (like sticking the init scripts under /sbin for example)
Having said that a written description of the FHS is a good place to start,
just don't take it as gospel. (see recent debate about partitions and booting
without /usr for more details)
