The RH docs are not too bad. My experience with many RH installs is that the basic install is simple, though you might have difficulties with X, sound card or with software modems, if they're not on the compatability list.

Should you need to keep Windows, I'd advise to save yourself time and trouble, by adding a second hard disk, this will allow you to keep what you have, and put the RH on a fresh disk.
