Ah, well I was quite happy with putting my module settings into modules.conf
- a painless one-time task - in comparison with an automated system that
doesn't seem to work for me.

Yes, I have them - haven't checked them yet - what should I do if they don't
match?

Yes, under sndconfig the samples were played correctly, however, every other
piece of software that tries to use the soundcard results in some crackling
and a "DMA timeout" message appearing in the log. This is an existing bug
under Redhat's Bugzilla.

Yes, I used Slackware as one of my first distributions some years back. I
was wowed away by the big distributions though!

((BTW: erm, this was just a little report about my initial install
experiences of last Sunday night as I thought it might be of interest - I'm
not stuck without a working system or anything (in fact I haven't touched it
since then!)))
