Hmmmm...interesting. I don't read Linux Format that often, but do let me
know how that goes - I'll mention it to my editor anyway.

Yes.

I'm up for it.

Yes, I volunteer to give a talk covering stuff from simple office
networking to Linux desktops, dual booting, multimedia, and so on - I can
give real world examples too...

Unfortunately not, however I have been told who I need to speak to within
UoN (University of Nottingham) to obtain facilities for such an event.
I've also checked out a few places in town which would let us use
facilities free of charge with a Bar should enough people turn up (e.g.
Santa Fe in the Cornerhouse if we get at least 20 people and it's not a
Friday/Saturday night - I picked up a corporate pack and explained my
interest, and the manager seemed ok with that...and they have an OHP etc.)

I'll volunteer on that front also.

I think to be honest, any substantial event should be planned at least 1
month-6 weeks in advance and the details worked out early on. OxLUG had an
install fest a while ago which went well after the co-ordination and
planning on the oxlug-events mailing list.

We need to know what we want to do, and to be honest, we need to figure
this out soon. Last time things turned in to pretty much a talk with a
little kit to look at but very little interactive element. I feel it would
be better to have a number of different small talks organised over the
period of an evening with a published schedule and interspaced with
breaks for food, drink, socialising and playing. Also, we need to get as
many people involved as possible so that we can do some small live demos
and get people playing with stuff.
