These commands are your friends :)
1. ps auxw
2. netstat -anp
3. lsof -i
#1 shows all processes, the users running them and does it in 'wide'
format so it shows all the options.
#2 will show all active network connections
#3 will show all (and I mean *all*!) open files to do with said network
connections.
Be prepared for some very long, verbose output :/
When you say "I have commented out" stuff from inetd.conf, that's fine.
But have you updated your FTP server so it's not vulnerable? Your copy of
BIND? Are you running RPC services?
That would be more useful to know...
