OK, time for a flaming experience, or may be not.

I am new the Linux thing. so brief history (sorry but hey I am a Newbie so
listen.!!!!!) <grin>

Was forced to use linux at work. Never used it before but thought that it
would be fun, I am a software developer and one of our enlightened clients used
Red Hat for their servers and wanted a version of our windows app using Sybase
Adaptive Server for RH.

Anyway no-one else in our team wanted to touch it.
(but they did constantly moan about windows and gates, but wanted windows
<slightly confused but hey we were VB developers>). Back to the story,

I found the whole thing fun, got to learn linux/unixy stuff and had a
completely different experience. Lots of headaches, never used anything that
didn't have MS all over it. (very blinkered)!.

What on earth was this tree....(opps back to the..)

But got there.

By the way (Sybase had changed the native SQL to be ANSI 92 as opposed to
88. big problems with the *= syntax. 92 doesn't know about them or Sybase
thought that they could ignore it. OUCH.) 200 views(bad system design but hey
i was just a programmer I didn't design it.) all with *=. Live the bad day
with me.

Anyways I was constantly thinking that only if I could have the things that I
am familiar with in Linux. Like the registry one path. to things and that.

New job and new monies allowed for me to have the new shiney computer and new
shiney removable HDDs.

One purchase of the Green thing(SuSE 7.1 Professional) and I was finally
putting my money were my mouth was and loving it.

But once I had installed Linux I still was left with this felling that I want
windows like structures.

I had just typed my e-mail address and UID and PWD into lots of different
things so wanted that registry.

But then I happened on Star Office.

oh my the start button and everything. Bliss/ OR SO I THOUGHT.

Granted my limited experience is showing and I am finding things slow going .

Especially the fact the after a undeterminiable time Kwvdail calls IP-Down and
that bugging me. ( i have got round in the short term by Ping Primary DNS
server of ISP it keeps the link active so I don't have to) but back to the ....

But then I am resolved to learn as I am now using Linux as my primary OS at
home and will only go to MS if I have to. But learning C++ and doing that
with KDevelop and even newer Job cross training to Java and C++ so hopefully
will never have to be in the MS world again.

But back to the point.

I find that I don't want the windows thing now. I like my Linux and I like it
Linuxy not windows or even a suggestion that it looks like windows.

I am a Linux user and I want Linux. not Windows.
Only had this experience this morning.

So there the path has been found again by a new comer and he is walking the
path.

Regards,
Jason
